A young woman, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. Starring Zoe Saldana, Callum Blue, Lenny James, Michael Vartan and Jordi Molla.
Hot on the heels of the controversy surrounding Miss Saldana’s role as Nina Simone in the biopic of the late African American singer and activist… I present you the reason we love Zoe, though her excessive dark make-up and lithe athleticism makes her not suitable as Nina Simone but amazing as the Cataleya in Colombiana.
Young Cataleya witnesses the death of her parents by assassins from the drug lord her father worked for. Her father had intel on his boss and afraid that he would pass it on to authorities, the drug lord orders Cataleya’s family killed. She escapes with the intel to America with the help of the US embassy, where she grows up to be an assassin for her uncle, whilst leaving a signature at her crime scenes, the Cataleya flower. Her fine work as an assassin attracts the attention of an FBI agent who assumes she is a man and thus ensues the hunt for him (who is really a “her”) and the imminent death of her present family due to the cartels discovering who she is, years after killing her parents.
This is a brilliant action and suspense movie, with enough ammo and hand to hand combat to set your heart racing. The film has received a 6.4 on iMDB and 27% on Rotten Tomatoes but I would give it a 7.5 outta 10 and hope her new film hits the big screen soon and is worth all the rage on Tumblr.
